Christo Zouves, M.D.
Educated in South Africa, Dr. Zouves studied Medicine at the University of Cape Town, completed internships in Medicine and Surgery at the prestigious Groote Schuur Hospital where the world's first human heart transplant was performed. Dr. Zouves then completed residencies and fellowships in both obstetrics & gynecology and general surgery in Oxford and Cheltenham respectively, followed by specialist certification at Royal Colleges in London, England. In 1981 Dr. Zouves moved to Canada and worked for 2 years in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, before moving to Vancouver British Columbia, where he completed an additional year as chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology before completing his Canadian Specialist certification in obstetrics & gynecology. In 1984, he completed his training in Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Zouves was full time faculty at the University of British Columbia, in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from 1985 to 1992, where he was the medical director of the In Vitro Fertilization Program. It was there that Dr. Zouves became a pioneer in endoscopic pelvic surgery.
In 1992, he joined Pacific Fertility Center in San Francisco as the Associate Medical Director, becoming Medical Director until December 1999. The Zouves Fertility Center opened in December 1999, offering comprehensive assisted reproductive treatment. Dr. Zouves has published extensively in the infertility literature and has co-authored two chapters on reproductive pelvic surgery. He is also on the Medical Advisory Board of Resolve in Northern California. Dr. Zouves has been involved in in vitro fertilization since 1984 when IVF first came to North America from Cambridge in England. Christo Zouves believes that he has one of the most rewarding jobs that anyone could possibly have.
